TFC - November

By heath - Posted on 12 November 2005

Tonight was the most recent meeting of the Temple Film Club (TFC). We along with the Skaggs watched About Schmidt. I may post a review if I decide to stay up any later.

Anyway, I thought I would draw any local readers' attention to the TFC. In my mind the TFC has a two-fold purpose. In fact, it may even be three fold. Let's see.

First, it is a chance for people of any stripe to get together and enjoy good movies and good discussion. As an avid lover of conversation and film. It is just the kind of thing I love. I probably wouldn't mind meeting more often if my schedule afforded it.

Secondly, it is a place for Christians to learn how to engage culture. Most of the movies we watch are not "Christian" movies. However, we believe that if truth exists it is because God made it. We don't care if a pagan found a particular nugget. We want to see it, admire it, treasure it. Much of the time Christians run about 5-7 years behind the world in finding truth that applies to our culture because we are afraid of getting dirty. The blood of Christ is a great cleansing agent. Let's find truth, and worship God because of it.

Finally, the TFC is a great place where Christians and non-Christians could gather around the common language of film and begin to understand each other. Do I wish that all people believed in Christ? Heck yeah. Do I want people to think that to wish this upon them is to hate them. No. Christ died for all kinds of people. I am not the special one, Jesus is. I'd love to have more diversity at the TFC so that we can learn from each other and have more transparent dialog with people of other faiths. I don't want to cram Jesus down anyone's throat, but I would like to understand the non-believer better, and if, as a result of Christ's love working through me, my friend were to repent and follow Christ, I'd be elated.

Christ has commissioned us to take over the world with a love that accepts anyone willing to lay down his pride and say I'm like Heath. I am a sinner. I need someone to help me out of this mess I have gotten myself into.

He has further commissioned us to transform the world as we take over it. We are to make it into the kind of place he originally intended to be and will finally bring to pass when he comes again. God desires justice, beauty, peace, humility, purity, love, but most of all he desires worship. He wants us to worship him with our hearts, bodies, and minds. He is gathering a body of worshipers. Let's start now.
